2Baba’s Fiancée, Natasha Osawaru, Causes Stir in Edo Assembly Over “Nee Idibia” Introduction

Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, the fiancée of veteran Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has sparked a wave of reactions following a now-viral video of her introducing herself during plenary at the Edo State House of Assembly.
In the video, which has been making the rounds on social media, the 30-year-old lawmaker from Egor constituency is seen addressing the speaker with a smile, saying:
“Mr Speaker, my name is Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru nee Idibia,”
The remark, which led to bursts of laughter and teasing from fellow lawmakers, momentarily disrupted proceedings. Natasha, clearly amused by the reaction, requested a moment to compose herself before proceeding to second a motion presented by a colleague.
The term “née” is a French expression commonly used to denote a married woman’s maiden name—not her married name. This sparked a flurry of reactions from Nigerians online, many of whom questioned her understanding of the phrase.
Social media users were quick to weigh in.
Damilare Odulesi, a DevOps consultant and trainer, asked:
“Does she know what ‘née’ means?”
Another user, Eno, responded:
“You know I even paused for a second.”
Frank Moore added:
“I confused oo. Abi na me be the mumu?”
While some found the moment humorous, others criticized what they viewed as a lack of clarity and understanding of formal language, especially in such a high-profile setting.
This incident comes shortly after Natasha lost her position as Minority Leader in the House following a shake-up that shifted majority control to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The change followed the defection of four PDP lawmakers, prompting a leadership restructuring within the chamber.
Natasha has been in the public eye since 2Baba publicly confirmed their relationship following his separation from actress Annie Idibia. The music icon later proposed to her, and she updated her social media bio to reflect the singer’s surname, Idibia.
Whether it was a playful slip or a misunderstanding of formal nomenclature, Hon. Natasha Osawaru’s declaration as “nee Idibia” has further cemented her place in the national spotlight—blurring the line between politics and pop culture once again.
