Ruling Houses Fault Oluwo for Stripping Ogundokun of titles

The heads of the ruling houses in Iwo have faulted the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, for announcing that he had stripped the Obanla of Iwo, Chief Abiola Ogundokun, of his traditional and Islamic titles.

The ruling houses met in Iwo on Wednesday and resolved to pass a vote of confidence in Ogundokun.

The head of the royal families in the town, Prince Babatunde Arowolo, who is also the Mogaji (Head) of the Ande Ogunmakinde ruling house, said they had all agreed that Ogundokun should not be stripped of his traditional titles just as Muslim leaders in the town also said.

Arowolo said, “We have agreed and unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Chief Abiola Ogundokun. We will hold another meeting on Monday May 8, 2017 where we will relay the resolution of both the royal families and Muslim communities to the Iwo Chiefs-in-Council.”

Also, the Chief Imam of Iwo, Sheik Abdulfatai Olododo, and other imams from the three local government councils in the town have advocated a peaceful resolution to the crisis between the monarch and Ogundokun.

The imams said this on Wednesday after a meeting they held with princes from the town to deliberate on the issue.

The Oluwo on Sunday announced that he had stripped Ogundokun, who is former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, of all his traditional and Islamic titles.

But Ogundokun said the monarch was not competent to do that while also threatening to ensure that the Oluwo was removed as the monarch.

But the imams said rather than engaging in altercation, the two warring individuals should find a way of settling their disagreement amicably in the interest of peace.

The chief imams said, “We urge the Oluwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, to employ a peaceful mechanism in resolving the crisis rather than stripping Chief Abiola Ogundokun of his Islamic titles.

“We would rather appeal to the king to please settle this mater amicably. All theses chieftaincy titles were conferred on Chief Ogundokun many years ago. So, there is the need for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.”
