Lagos NURTW Chairman, Tafa Sego, Escapes Assassination Attempt as Armed Men Storm His Surulere Residence

The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday night, April 5, 2025, after six unidentified armed men reportedly invaded his residence in Surulere with the alleged intent to kill him.

According to credible sources and reports by The SocietyGist, the armed assailants stormed Tafa Sego’s residence at Gbadamosi Close, Surulere, around 11:00 pm, fully armed and allegedly prepared to carry out a targeted assassination. However, the attempt was thwarted by fate, as the union leader was not at home at the time of the attack.

Witnesses disclosed that the gunmen arrived in a tinted SUV and forcefully gained access to the premises. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but close associates suggest it could be linked to ongoing internal conflicts and leadership struggles within the union.

Tafa Sego, a prominent figure in Lagos transport politics, is known for his influence and firm grip on the affairs of the NURTW in the state. The failed attempt on his life has sparked concern among stakeholders in the transport sector, with calls for thorough investigation and tighter security for union executives.

Local authorities have reportedly been notified, and investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators and their possible sponsors. As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Lagos State Police Command.

This incident adds to the growing list of politically charged violence and threats against high-profile individuals in the Lagos transport sector, raising concerns about safety, rivalry, and the need for a more proactive security framework in the state.
