AD Governorship Candidate, Olusola Oke, Mimiko in War of Words over Alleged Arms Possession
The governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy in Ondo State, Mr. Olusola Oke, has accused Governor Olusegun Mimiko and the Peoples Democratic Party in the state of sponsoring a report that he was allegedly arrested in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state on Friday by men of the Nigerian Army for illegal possession of arms.
Oke said the fake report was sponsored by the PDP in the state to tarnish his image.
The AD candidate, who spoke through his media aide, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, said, “The PDP resolved to peddle the rumour of Oke’s arrest and use social media to circulate the rumour as a result of the indefinite adjournment given by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
“The PDP, led by Governor Olusegun Mimiko, is afraid of Olusola Oke, especially with the court decision which did not favour them, hence the baseless rumour.”
But the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, said the AD candidate should desist from blaming Mimiko for his travails.
Fadaka said, “We don’t know anything about the allegation; I think sometimes he does not deserve respect from us. If he is not able to locate where his travails and trials are coming from, then I don’t think he should be contesting this election.”
When contacted about the alleged arrest of Oke, the Public Relations Officer of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure, Captain Ojo Adelegan, said he had not got such report from the Army base in Okitipupa.
Similarly, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph, said he was unaware of the development.
