Budget Padding Controversy: House of Reps Suspends Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin for 180 Legislative Days
Members of the House of Representatives Wednesday suspended ousted Chairman Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abdulmunin Jibrin for 180 legislative days.
The suspension followed the adoption of the recommendations of the Hon. Nicholas Ossai-led Ethics and Privileges Committee at the plenary presided by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Sulaimon Yussuf Lassun.
He was suspended for allegedly “breaching privileges of members” of the House and must submit a letter of apology to the House before he is allowed to sit.
Jibrin’s suspension would see him banned from the premises of the National Assembly in the course of the disciplinary action. He would also not receive salaries or allowances.
According to the motion adopted by the House, Jibrin will also not be able to hold any position of responsibility for the span of the current National Assembly.
The House also demanded that Jibrin tender a formal written apology to the House upon serving out the period of his suspension.
Jibrin failed to appear before the committee last week, saying that the outcome of the investigation of the committee will be manipulated against him.
