Ahead of the 2019 governorship election in Delta State, there appear a crack in the camp of Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta state for daring to sponsor groups in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the faction of the National PDP Chairman led by Modu Sheriff, SocietyGists.com can authoritatively report.

It was gathered that Okowa made available funds running into billions of naira to fight Sheriff but was unsuccessful as those backing the factional chairman overpowered the governor’s financial prowess.

It would be recall that Okowa among other PDP governors in the South-south were fighting to remove Sheriff from the party’s national secretariat following Sheriff’s stand to fight against any PDP state where primaries where not conducted in accordance with the party’s regulations and guidelines.

The factional chairman was quoted to have said, he would ensure that states where party chairmen where imposed on the wish of the people – would be shown the way out and Delta State happens to be one of such states where its present chairman, Barr Kingsley Esiso was handpicked by Okowa.

It would also be recall that leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Olomu, Ughelli south local government area of the state has called on the state governor, Dr Okowa to revert to the old order.

Okowa is being accused of imposing an unpopular candidate on Ughelli South PDP while jeopardizing the aspirations and dreams of the Olomu people from producing the PDP state vice chairman.

One of the leaders of the party from ward 5 in Olomu, Chief Sam Ekatu, revealed that during the recent party congress in Ughelli South local government, “the positions were zoned among the different senatorial districts. One of the Vice Chairmanship position was zoned to Ughelli South and then with the wisdom of the leaders in this local government, the position of the Vice Chairman was zoned to Olomu”. He disclosed that there was a consensus candidate for the position but the governor denied them the opportunity.

Impeccable sources told SocietyGists that Okowa went to meet the embattled former governor of the state, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, who is serving jail term in London over money laundry to mediate for him as Sheriff is a political associate of Ibori.

Okowa who deceived Deltans that he was going on a Sabbatical leave abroad, went on negotiation over his political ambition – this is while leaving civil servants without their pay.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that Sheriff had sent one of his workers, the sacked Delta Central senator, Chief Ighoyota Amori out of his office for incompetence.
