It was a sober reflection for all those in attendance as the lecturer of the day, Sheikh Muhydeen Bello leave no stone unturned to remind everyone of the last day.

It will be recalled that the late Oba Yekini Elegushi died in November 2009, at the Reddington Hospital, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Consequent upon his transition, his son, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi (Kusenla 111) was enthroned and presented staff of office in April 2010.

The name of late Oba Alayeluwa Yekinni Adeniyi Elegushi, the 20th Oba Elegushi of Ikate land would forever be remembered in the annals of the history of Ikate land, nay the entire Lagos state, as a ruler who transformed the rural dukedom of ancient Ikateland into a modern royal kingdom.

For this, the entire Eti-Osa is indebted to him for his leadership role in re-introducing royalty and respect to a neglected area by compelling successive governments of Lagos state to pay due attention to the area.

Oba Yekinni Elegushi, however, insisted that it was a “restoration” of Olofin’s sovereignty to one of his descendants rather than “re-introduction” of royalty to Ikate-land.

The story began about nineteen years ago when the then Prince yekinni was selected by Ikate Royal Family to succeed to the vacant title of “Elegushi” then occupied by late Dawuda Fasanya. The Lagos state Government approved the selection, and on June 23, 1991, late Chief Lamidi Olumegbon [kalefo ll] performed the installation rite for the 2oth Oba Elegushi of Ikate land.

Oba Yekinni Elegushi hailed from Kusenla house of the ruling family, the other three ruling houses are Bakare, Akin Idunfa and Odiyan.

The Oba assumed the title of Kusenla ll was born on April 10, 1940, and he was the third of Late Chief Tijani Bamgbala Elegushi, who died in 1968, while his mother was late Madam Lauratu Gbamgbala Elegushi nee Bakare, from Igbokusu.

He started his primary education at the Local Authority Primary School, Moba from where he proceeded to St. Stephen’s School Lagos. From there he was admitted to western college, Yaba. This ended his formal education.

Thus, at the age of 23 years he joined the Nigerian Port Authority (now Nigerian Ports Plc), Lagos. The future Oba of Ikateland knew nothing of the crown which fate reserved for him.

However, after seven years stint at the Nigerian Ports Plc., he called it quit and started his own private business which he called Edo-Ikate Clearing Limited, which engaged in clearing and forwarding of goods, and cargos to oversea countries. This coincides with the end of the Nigerian civil war of 1968-1970 and the return of prosperity to the country, via import and export trade.

In the year that followed, the future Oba Elegushi waxed strong in business. His major companies are: Elegushi Property Investment Company Limited (EPIC) and Ade Automobile Agents.
