Former Gov. Nyako, Son, Stripped of Adamawa traditional titles
The paramount traditional ruler in Adamawa state, Muhammad Mustafa, on Friday stripped a former governor of the state, Murtala Nyako, and his son, Abdul’Aziz, of their traditional titles of Sarkin Yamma, and Sarkin Matasa respectively.
The younger Nyako is a senator representing Adamawa central.
The Adamawa Emirate council also dismissed the former governor from the membership of the council.
Mr. Nyako was impeached by the state House of Assembly in 2014, but the impeachment was declared illegal by the Court of Appeal. The Court did not however order for his reinstatement.
Mr. Nyako is presently in the Supreme Court asking it to return him to office based on the ruling of the Appeal Court, an action that has pitched him against Governor Muhammad Jibrilla.
According to a statement signed by the Lamido Adamawa, he said the decision was necessary because the two title holders have been indicted by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, E.F.C.C and arraigned before a court of law for alleged corruption.
Lamido Barkindo was installed during the former governor’s reign. Mr. Nyako also appointed the monarch’s son as commissioner.
