During the 2023 Mechanical Engineering Distinguished Lecture organized by the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Otunba Gbenga Daniel emphasized the intrinsic connection between Nigeria’s progress and the localization of decision-making processes.
Serving as a special guest at the event held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, the senator representing Ogun East District addressed a gathering of professional mechanical engineers.
As an engineer by profession, Senator Daniel delved into the pivotal role of engineering in driving development and creating substantial employment opportunities in Nigeria. His lecture, titled “Engineering, Panacea For Development & Massive Employment Generation In Nigeria,” underscored the significance of prioritizing engineering innovations for societal advancement.
The annual event, a key gathering for professional mechanical engineers in Nigeria, highlighted the crucial need to place engineering at the forefront of national development strategies. Senator Daniel emphasized that for Nigeria to achieve meaningful progress, approximately 95% of decisions must be localized. Engr. (Dr.) Funmilade Akingbagbohun, the national chairman of NIMechE, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that engineering innovations are fundamental to development in any sane society.
The lecture not only served as a platform for knowledge sharing but also emphasized the critical role of engineering professionals in shaping the country’s future.
