Hon. Ladi Adebutu: A Businessman Cum Politician Making Giant Strides Quietly
Since his foray into the murky waters of Nigerian politics and deep involvement in philanthropic services, and giving the enormous resources being deployed especially to uplift humanity in his little way, the mere mention of the name Ladi Adebutu, especially to political adversaries, may present a picture of someone who is feasting on his rich parentage to live a life of elegance and service to humanity.
What they would probably not tell you is the fact that Ladi Adebutu is not just from a wealthy background, he has also carved a niche for himself in business by owning several business concerns, one of which is the single-owned largest and biggest pig industry in the whole of Nigeria and by extension West Africa.
Apart from his strides in the Agricultural sector, Ladi Adebutu also owns Kesington Real Estate and Tourism Nigeria Limited, a very active company that is into construction and Real Estate, under this company is an almost completed Golf Resort that seats on an expanse of land of about 157 hectares in Ode-Remo, also in Ogun State.
The Golf Resort has a Hotel with 150 rooms and an 18-hole Golf Course of international standard built on 200 acres of land. Aside from the Agricultural enterprise and Real Estate, Ladi has a fleet of Haulage Trucks for the ferrying of granite for construction, animal feeds among others.
It is also pertinent to note that Honourable Adebutu has never lived outside Iperu, Ogun State, since he came back from the UK after his tertiary education, except when he served in the NASS , in 1992 and 2015 respectively.
He lived and dined with his people-elite and rural, without shame.
No wonder his constant appointment into several Local Government and Rural Development ventures, initiatives and entities across the country both in private and public sectors.
Honorable Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu was born on February 25th, 1962, in Lagos State, into the distinguished family of Sir. Dr. Chief Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu, OON, CON, KJW, and Dame Caroline Oladunni Adebutu. His father holds prestigious titles, including Balogun and Babaoba of Iperu Remo, Akogun of Remoland, Olotu, and Asoju Oba of Lagos. He belongs to the renowned Adebutu Family of Eti-Obale, Iperu Remo, and the Apondele royal family of Ode Remo. His mother, Dame Caroline, is the Yeyemode of Iperu Remo, Apesin of Lagos, and Yeyeoba of Odogbolu, and she is from the Jaiyesimi Okuwa family of Odogbolu.
Hon. Oladipupo’s educational journey began at the International Day Nursery School in Yaba in 1964. He later attended St. Saviours Primary School in Oke-Ira, Ebute-Metta, Lagos. He continued his studies at Igbobi College, where he earned his West African School Certificate in 1978. His pursuit of education led him abroad, where he attended St. Columbas College in Rathfarnham, Dublin, obtaining the Irish Leaving Certificate in 1980. He furthered his education at the National Institute of Higher Education in Limerick, Republic of Ireland, and the Regional Technical College at Athlone and Carlow, Republic of Ireland, from 1981 to 1984.
Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu’s dedication and academic excellence culminated in the following qualifications:
Irish Leaving Certificate (1980): Equivalent to Pre-degree Irish National Certificate (1983): Equivalent to National Diploma Irish National Diploma (1984) equivalent to B.Sc. (Analytical Chemistry) He participated in the National Youth Service Corps Scheme in Biu, Borno State, between 1987 and 1988. He briefly worked at Kesington Industries, Iperu Remo, from 1988 to 1991. In 1991, he assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at JB Farms Ltd and subsequently established Solomon Kensington Agro-Allied Limited.
He remains the Chief Executive Officer of these enterprises and is recognized as one of the nation’s largest livestock farmers.
He also holds an executive position at Premier Lotto Limited and serves as the chairman and CEO of LADO Tourism and Real Estate Limited.
In the political arena, Hon. Oladipupo O. Adebutu has a distinguished record. He entered the National Assembly in 1992 under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), representing Remo Federal Constituency. He aspired to the Senate under the United National Congress Party (UNCP) in 1998 and pursued National Assembly seats with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2003, 2007, and 2011.
His public service continued as he became a Full-Time Commissioner II in the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission in September 2007. His commitment led to a rapid promotion to Full-Time Commissioner I within a month. He played a pivotal role in the development and well-being of local government workers throughout the state.
In March 2015, he was elected to the 8th National Assembly, representing Remo Federal Constituency (Remo North, Shagamu, and Ikenne Local Governments) in the House of Representatives, Abuja. He serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Rural Development.
Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu’s engagement in community mobilization and social activities is noteworthy. He chaired the Akesan Day Celebrations Committee in 2007, contributing significantly to the community’s development. His contributions were recognized through various chieftaincy titles and awards from esteemed institutions.
A devoted Christian, Hon. Adebutu is actively involved in religious activities, particularly in the Celestial Church of Christ and the Methodist Church. He is also an avid sports enthusiast, as evident through his ownership of LADI ADEBUTU FC and his support for local football development.
