Ijebu State: Awujale Urges Unity Among Stakeholders

The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba S.K. Adetona, GCON, has urged stakeholders to remain united in their pursuit of a new Ijebu State, emphasising that the creation of a new state from the Old Ijebu Province is achievable.

Addressing a stakeholders’ meeting on the creation of Ijebu State at Aafin Awujale, Ijebu-Ode, on Thursday, 19th December 2024, Oba Adetona expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly for creating an enabling environment for the consideration of the state creation bill.

He acknowledged the historical unity between the Ijebu and Remo people while recognising the occasional political divisions. However, he stressed the importance of maintaining a united front in this endeavour.

Oba Adetona commended the National Assembly for passing the first and second readings of the Ijebu State creation bill, urging stakeholders to remain resolute in their efforts to realise this goal.

The Awujale expressed his appreciation to all those who have contributed to the cause, particularly Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Governor of Ogun State, for his financial and intellectual contributions.

He highlighted the findings of research that demonstrate the viability of a new Ijebu State, citing its abundant human, material, and economic resources.

Oba Adetona emphasised the importance of focusing on the common goal and overcoming any divisions that may arise.

He acknowledged the existing international airport in the region as a significant advantage, crediting Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for this development.

Furthermore, Oba Adetona expressed his gratitude to Oba Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo of Remoland, for his unwavering support and cooperation in the pursuit of Ijebu State creation.

He reiterated the importance of open and honest dialogue among stakeholders to ensure a unified approach and achieve a common goal.

The Awujale concluded his address by wishing all stakeholders a Merry Christmas and expressing his confidence in the successful outcome of their deliberations.
