Ogun APC Holds Parallel Primaries for LG Polls
Ahead of local government elections slated for October 8 in Ogun State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yewa South Local Government Area in the state yesterday held parallel primaries to elect the candidates of the party for the elections.
A faction said to be loyal to the Governor of the state, Ibikunle Amosun, held its primary at the local government party secretariat while other faction believed to be loyal to the senator representing Lagos West at the Senate, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, held its primaries at Oba Kehinde Olugbenle pavillion.
Adeola’s group produced an SDP returnee, Mrs. Bola Ajayi, while the governor’s group produced one Jimoh Taiwo.
It was gathered that the chairman of the party in the local government area, Tunji Idowu, led Adeola factional primary while other executive members were at the party’s secretariat.
Idowu, however, said: “Nobody is doing primary here, we are only doing congress, I am very busy and don’t have time now.”
The Assistant Organising Secretary of the party, Salako Samson, alleged that the party chairman was working against the party’s interest in order to favour the governorship ambition of the senator.
He said: “We were informed that there is no approval from the state to conduct primary in the local government area we don’t know where the chairman derived that authority to conduct primary in the local government area which is ongoing now.”
