Power Shift in Edo Assembly: 2Baba’s Lover, Natasha Osawaru, Removed As Minority Leader

In a dramatic twist at the Edo State House of Assembly, Natasha Osawaru, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker and current partner of Nigerian music icon 2Baba, has been removed from her position as Minority Leader following a political realignment that handed the All Progressives Congress (APC) majority control.
Osawaru, who represents the Egor constituency, was ousted alongside Charity Aiguobarueghian, former Majority Leader, and Yekini Idaiye, who served as Chief Whip. Their removal follows the defection of four PDP lawmakers to the APC, a move that significantly altered the power dynamics within the House.
Despite the shake-up, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku and Deputy Speaker Maria Edeko—both members of the PDP—retained their leadership positions, although Agbebaku noted that their roles could be reviewed in light of the new political landscape.
The changes were triggered by a formal notification from Jarret Tenebe, the acting chairman of the APC in Edo State, who informed the Assembly of the party’s newfound majority. The speaker subsequently confirmed the appointment of new APC principal officers: Ibhamawu Aigbokhan (Esan West) as Majority Leader, Addeh Isibor (Esan North-East I) as Deputy Leader, and Lecky Hussein Mustapha (Etsako West I) as Chief Whip.
“The PDP leadership in the state will be forwarding a list of nominees for the remaining principal offices soon,” Agbebaku stated during plenary.
Osawaru has been at the center of public attention since January, when music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, confirmed their relationship shortly after announcing his separation from actress Annie Idibia. In February, the ‘African Queen’ crooner proposed to Natasha, cementing their romantic ties. The lawmaker further stirred headlines by updating her Instagram bio to include the singer’s surname—just weeks after Annie Idibia dropped it.
While political analysts debate the long-term implications of the APC’s new dominance in the Edo House, Natasha Osawaru’s removal underscores the volatile mix of politics and personal life that continues to shape public discourse in Nigeria.
