TASUED Students Celebrate FG’s Adoption, Honour Otunba Gbenga Daniel

The Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) Student Union has applauded the Federal Government for adopting the institution as a federal university, securing its future after years of financial struggles under Ogun State leadership.
Recall that the FG announced the adoption of the school recently as a federal university following the failures of successive Ogun State governors to fund the school after its establishment 20years years ago by the former governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
In a heartfelt appreciation letter co-signed by Student Union President Abidakun Tomide, Secretary Kehinde Yunus, and Public Relations Officer Ogunfowora Oluwaashinaayomi, the students described the move as a testament to the government’s commitment to education and recognition of TASUED’s excellence in knowledge delivery and capacity building.
The students expressed profound gratitude to Otunba Daniel, who established TASUED in 2005, calling him the institution’s “founding father” and praising his vision for teacher education in Nigeria.
They also honoured late Comrade Fashina Olatunjji (Humble Teejay), who tragically lost his life in 2012 while protesting against the attempted closure of the university by the Amosun-led administration.
The union further described the federalization of TASUED as a long-overdue milestone that will improve academic programs, expand infrastructure, and provide stable funding.

They believe this transformation will enhance the university’s reputation as Nigeria’s leading institution for teacher education.
“This achievement secures our university’s future, strengthens our academic foundation, and ensures that TASUED continues to produce world-class educators,” the statement read.
