Wike Slams Fake News: “I Did Not Collapse, I Am Not a Ghost”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed social media rumors claiming that he collapsed at an event last week, labeling them as politically motivated falsehoods.

Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, refuted the claims on Thursday while inspecting four ongoing projects in Abuja, including the International Conference Centre.

Reacting to the viral rumors, Wike stated that the fabricated news was the handiwork of those trying to score cheap political points and divert attention from recent revelations by former Rivers Head of Service, George Nwaeke, regarding the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“I don’t want to give credence to people who are only interested in carrying rumors. First of all, I’m a human being; it’s not a ghost that will collapse; it’s a human being that will collapse if there is any issue with their health. Unfortunately, I did not collapse,” Wike said.

He further emphasized that life and death are in the hands of God, adding with characteristic bluntness:

“Some of them who said I will die, I can assure you that I will write their condolence letter.”

The false reports, which spread widely on X (formerly Twitter), claimed that Wike collapsed at an event in Abuja last Friday and was flown out of the country for emergency treatment.

However, just two days later, Wike made a public appearance alongside other dignitaries during a Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. His lively demeanor at the event put to rest any speculation about his health.

Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, had earlier dismissed the claims as baseless, reaffirming that there was no truth to the reports.

Despite the distractions, the FCT Minister remains focused on his duties, inspecting major infrastructural projects in Abuja and ensuring the successful implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the capital city.

With his characteristic defiance, Wike continues to push forward, unfazed by detractors and unfounded rumors.
